Cognitive Challenge Files
These files can be used throughout the program to add a cognitive/visual challenge to exercises that are becoming mastered by the student. For even greater challenge these can be added with a rhythmic beat. You will see exercises starred (*) where it is recommended to add this challenge once the movement is mastered or almost mastered.
Instructions: Print off the file. Simply hold up the paper at least an arm's distance away from the student - or tape it to the wall in front of them. Have them read the information left-to-right, top-to-bottom, or backwards while engaging in the already assigned movement task.
In activities where there already is a noted cognitive challenge, such as counting, you can progress the challenge using these cognitive sheets. Once your child does well with counting, progress the challenge by having them read off the number/letter/shape in between every time they throw/catch the bean bag, etc.
These files are examples and you can create your own that are similar using shapes, numbers, letters, words, and simple math problems. Get creative!
