Four Ways to Use an Exercise Ball for Reflex Integration

Check out my four favorite, fun & functional, movements to do with a therapy ball to help improve core/postural strength and stimulate reflexes

Check out my four favorite, fun & functional, movements to do with a therapy ball to help improve core/postural strength and stimulate reflexes.

1️⃣ Prone on the ball. Have your child roll out on the ball holding a plank position. Support them at their hips or legs. Place objects, like bean bags, spread out in front of them. Have them grab the object and throw to a target.
✅ This movement builds strong core strength and improves extensor muscle strength needed for good posture. Stimulates the parachute reflex (hands supporting) and Landau.

2️⃣ Start seated on the ball with parent supporting child in front of them, at their hips. Guide child to roll back, extending arms and head. Place objects on the floor, have the child reach back to grab one and roll up to seated, tossing the object at a target.
✅ This movement helps stimulate the Moro reflex and works on core strength and the same time.

3️⃣ Ball toss hands to feet. With your child lying supine, have them hold the ball in their hands while they lift their upper body & head up to place the ball between the legs. Then touch the ball to the ground and repeat bringing the ball back to the hands.
✅ This movement helps the Moro reflex and core strength.

4️⃣ Have child seated on the ball with parent in front of them, supporting at the hips. Tilt their hips to one side and wait 7 seconds to see the head move the opposite direction. Repeat towards the other side then forward & backward.
✅ This movement helps stimulate head righting reflex.

*️⃣ BONUS: once you’re finished bounce your child up and down while seated on the ball for added vestibular stimulation!
