Primitive reflexes require lots of repetition in order to integrate. Primitive reflexes also overlap during development - helping one another integrate. When we are integrating reflexes at a later age, we are trying to replicate the infants experience. The best approach is to integrate multiple reflexes at the same time with loads of repetition to re-create the infant experience.

Children with retained reflexes often have lower muscle tone because their nervous system is immature. When we help to develop core strength and postural stability while integrating primitive reflexes, they integrate faster. The upright posture helps the brain process incoming sensory input easier.

Children with retained reflexes also often have sensory processing challenges. This is because the sensory systems integrate during the period of infancy when primitive reflexes integrate. Sensory systems & reflexes are highly connected. When we input the body with specific sensory stimulation while integrating reflexes we help to develop even more areas of the brain. Laying the foundation for optimal change in higher level cortical function.
