Practicing brain healthy lifestyle habits along with specific neurologically-based movements that increase connectivity between right & left hemispheres may help prevent cognitive decline as we age. We can improve our brain health at any age! Neuroplasticity has proven that even as aging adults we can improve the blood flow to our brains and connections in the corpus callosum; leaving us stronger, smarter, and healthier.
The statistics tell us that dementia is on the rise. Neurological conditions like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s are also on the rise. 50-80% of individuals with either condition will experience dementia as their disease progresses.
Dementia is a syndrome, usually of a chronic or progressive nature, caused by a variety of brain illnesses that affect memory, thinking, behavior and ability to perform everyday activities.
The number of people living with dementia worldwide is currently estimated at 50 million and will almost triple by 2050.
Although dementia may affect a lot of people; it is not a normal part of aging.
One of the most important facts about dementia is that it is preventable. By placing a heavier emphasis on brain health with a proper nutrition, walking, specific brain-based exercises, sunshine, decreasing stress, and improving sleep; we can help prevent cognitive decline as we age.
Recent research demonstrates that individuals that did not experience cognitive decline over 90 years of age, had significantly more connectivity between their right & left brain hemispheres when compared to others. Current treatments to prevent cognitive decline consist of medications and brain-based cognitive training through computer programs. We are taking a different stance….one of movement. Movement creates change in the brain, and specific movement helps increase connection between right & left brain hemispheres. Combined with education in brain healthy lifestyle habits our program is a whole-body/mind approach.
Our movement-based program is geared towards improving the connectivity in the brain and preventing cognitive decline. Balancing the brain hemispheres through specific neurologically-based movements will have significant effect on improvements in brain health.
