Our favorite way to sneak more good stuff into our kids diets is through smoothies. You can jam-pack them with goodness and cover any bitter tastes with antioxidant rich fruits and berries that provide a sweetness children love.
This smoothie is our go-to for filling my children with antioxidants that help decrease inflammation & oxidative stress in the body and herbs that pull heavy metals from the body. You can play with the recipe and add more of items your child likes and less of others. If your child is new to eating leafy greens and herbs its best to start with a larger ratio of fruits to greens to increase their palate towards the taste. Eventually moving towards the amounts of greens listed in the recipe.
In this smoothie we include banana, cilantro, wild blueberries, and dates. All of which provide fiber and healthy phytonutrients. See the health benefits of each below:
Banana: great source of vitamin C; potassium is good for heart health & blood pressure; good for digestion
Cilantro: contains vitamins C, K, & A; known for detoxing heavy metals; good source of dietary fiber; contains iron, potassium, & magnesium
Wild blueberries: packed with antioxidants; good source of fiber; help to boost brain function
Dates: reduce blood pressure; boost the brain; good source of fiber; contain iron, potassium, B vitamins, copper & magnesium
Body Boosting Smoothie
1 frozen banana
1/2 cup wild blueberries
1/2 cup raspberries
1/2 cup cilantro
handful of leafy greens
1 cup coconut water
1-2 dates, unpitted
handful additional herbs (optional) – oregano, sage, parsley
Put all ingredients in a high speed blender until smooth. Pour into cup and Enjoy!
